Stephanie Jeffrey Carlino has held a number of noteworthy posts throughout her career. Back in the 1980s, for instance, she essentially launched the Nassau County Film Office and her position as film commissioner. In the next decade, she went on to serve as director of sales and marketing at Hofstra University, followed by a stint as assistant to the director of the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency. At the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Carlino served as director of fund development and marketing. “I’ve enjoyed every job I’ve ever had,” she says. In between work and raising a daughter as a single parent, over the years Carlino has also made it a point to volunteer for various causes, from Girl Scout troop leader to the Education & Assistance Corporation (EAC). Today, she’s enjoying perhaps the most challenging position of her well-rounded career. Carlino is currently executive director of the recently formed Long Island Neurological Institute, a not-for-profit organization devoted to helping those suffering with neurological disorders by offering information, education, support and outreach. Because this is a new organization, “We’re starting at the bottom . . . nobody knows about us yet!” she says. However, utilizing her keen business acumen, Carlino is determined to change that, drawing on all of her past experiences, as well as her networking skills, to place the LI Neurological Institute on the local radar.“I see myself building something that will shape the future of Long Island,” she states succinctly, “and I am proud of that.” — Claudia Gryvatz Copquin |
